Insurance in Sint Maarten, Saint Martin and nearby islands

Enterprise Insurance has offices in Philipsburg and Cole Bay on the Dutch side of the island (Sint Maarten). People live, work and own property on both sides of the island, which is divided between Sint Maarten (a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands) and Saint-Martin (a French overseas collectivity).

Insurance is supervised separately on each side: on the Dutch side by the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten, and on the French side under French and EU rules (ACPR). If you tell an advisor where your home, vehicle, boat or business is located, they can explain whether and how cover may be arranged, and whether a French-side insurer or intermediary is needed.

Questions also come up about neighbouring islands such as Anguilla, Saint-Barthélemy (St. Barths), Saba and Sint Eustatius (Statia), for example for a vessel, a second home or a business with activities on more than one island. Rules, supervision and available insurers differ on each island, so an advisor can explain what may be possible for your situation.
